International delivery service (via DHL) - Big Matts are not liable for any customs requirements and duties arising for delivery of items outside the UK. Any applicable duties, taxes, admin fees, local charges, and disbursement fees are payable directly by the consignee prior to final delivery.  Big Matts reserves the right to recover any costs incurred as a result of non-payment of applicable fees.


Deliveries to the EU after Brexit - After  31st December 2020 Customs Declarations will be required for any shipments to the EU from Great Britain. This means that orders made from countries in the EU could incur import duties and VAT, payable to DHL before you receive your delivery. 


Order value under £20: Will not incur any charge

Order value £20 - £135: Could incur import VAT

Order value £135+: Could incur import VAT & Customs Duty


Useful information


  • Leo & Portwest items - some of our Leo and Portwest items are ordered directly from the suppliers. Unfortunately, this can take an additional 3-4 days to arrive with you. If you have any questions about this, please speak to our customer service team.

  • Same day dispatch – We always aim to dispatch the same working day for all orders made before 2:30pm Monday to Friday (DHL next day services, dispatch is guaranteed same day if ordered by 2.30pm, but other services may be the next working day during busy periods).

  • Orders made after 2:30pm will be dispatched on the next working day.

  • Working days are Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays).

  • Delivery transit times (other than guaranteed services) are intended as a guide only.

  • Additional shipping charges may apply for extended / remote areas as defined by DHL, any applicable costs will be included in your final checkout amount.

  • If the country you require is not listed, please contact us directly ([email protected]) and we’ll be able to advise accordingly.


International returns: International customers are responsible for their own return postage costs, Big Matts will not be held liable for any return postage costs incurred. If you inform the courier to 'return to sender', any costs incurred will be deducted from your refund amount.



What if I’m not in to sign for the goods?

For Royal Mail deliveries, the parcel will be taken to the local sorting office (or sometimes the post office) and you have the option to collect it or ask Royal Mail to redeliver. You can ask Royal Mail to deliver to your local post office instead of the sorting office (Royal Mail may charge you for this service).

For DHL deliveries, you have the option via DHL On Demand Delivery to customise your delivery.

In the event of you deciding to have the consignment left in a ‘safe place’, Big Matts WILL NOT be held responsible for any loss or damage.

Has Brexit affected delivery charges to EU customers?

Unfortunately, as we wave bon voyage to our friends within the EU, additional import duties and VAT are now applicable to some of our valued customers.


However, we operate on a Delivery Duties Paid model for all EU orders for faster, cheaper and easier delivery to EU countries. By paying for all delivery duties at checkout means that you don’t need to wait for couriers to contact you with added import fees. Plus, it’s:

  • Cheaper - Our delivery duties are cheaper than what you’d pay couriers
  • Faster - Your order is processed quicker at customs
  • Easier - You can sit back, relax and wait for your order to arrive knowing that everything is paid for

Returns, Exchanges & Refunds

We get it, sometimes something just doesn't work for you and that’s a-okay with us. We offer fuss-free returns and exchanges, with free return shipping for customers in the UK.


How do I return my Big Matts order?

Step 2: Include a note in your returns package

Your note should tell our warehouse team whether you would like a refund or an exchange.


Step 3: Send it back to us with proof of postage

We strongly recommend that you get proof of postage when returning your order to protect

you, should your parcel get lost on the way back to us.


Step 4: Sit back & relax

Sit back and relax knowing that our team will process your refund/exchange as quickly as possible.

All returns must be sent to us within 30 days and should be sent back to us in their original condition together with the original packaging and tags. If you send unwanted items after the relevant returns period above, we may have to send it back to you and ask you to cover the additional delivery costs.

All items are inspected on return by our team. When trying on clothing please be careful with the item (don’t use unnecessary force) and don’t wear cologne or antiperspirant deodorant, as these can mark and leave scents on the item.

If an item is returned to us worn, used, damaged or in an unsaleable condition, or where the above instructions have not been followed, we won’t be able to give you a refund and we may have to send it back to you and ask you to cover the delivery costs. Customers must advise whether they would like their items delivered or destroyed within 7 working days of receipt of email or garments will be disposed of for the health and safety of staff.


  • We will send your exchanged goods on receipt of the returned garment.
  • Exchanges are subject to current stock/sizes being available
  • Free return label available for first exchange and any subsequent labels you will be charged £3.99 per label


  • We issue all refunds within 14 working days after processing of the returned garment (can be up to 28 working days in busy periods)
  • Original postage on all items will not be refunded
  • Refunds will be issued back onto the same credit/debit card or PayPal account used to pay for the original garment
  • Order over £99 and get free delivery, if you return goods and the balance is below £99 you will be charged £3.99 and this will be deducted from your refund as this will take you under the free delivery threshold of £99. If you order when a free delivery promotion is active, for example "free delivery over £10 this weekend" and you return goods that bring the refund balance below the qualifying free delivery limit then you will be charged standard delivery at £3.99

Faulty goods
